Letter of the alphabet from the editor

As the September 2012 effect of

The Arts Paper

focused on New Oasis'south culinary offerings and the November 2012 edition celebrated the urban center's architecture, this edition explores New Haven's trip the light fantastic scene. While they might seem rather tidy, "themed" issues are, to some degree, troublesome publications in that what they exclude is as apparent as the information they and then subjectively include. What such a discipline- specific focus does offer is a sense of what Greater New Haven has to offer in that area, beyond the obvious. Equally it has in by years, this issue of

The Arts Newspaper

provides an overview of Wesleyan University'southward Trip the light fantastic toe- Masters Weekend. Hither again, we've made no attempt at comprehensiveness. What we accept done (we promise) is given you lot some extra incentive to attend this substantial result. Hank Hoffman's "Artists Adjacent Door" profile this month introduces readers to Sydney Skybetter, a choreog- rapher who "contends that New Havedue north could be a burgeoning danceast hub in its ain correct," every bit Hank tells us in his commodity, and whose recent relocation to New Haven carries the promise to brand that happen. In her dance-focused story, Arts Council communications manager Amanda May writes about James Atkin- son'south desire to "make anybody a fan of ballet," which is essentially the mission of his New Haven- and New York-based Classical Contemporary Ballet Theatre. Amanda too lets us know in this edition of

The Arts Newspaper

almost Pilobolus' local education initiatives. In our monthly "The Arts Council sounds off …" feature, Julie Trachtenberg, the organization's develop- ment and marketing manager, talks about the experience she had at a trip the light fantastic toe event in the Yale University Fine art Gallery's lobby. And with our new, "Best Of" feature, we showcase five trip the light fantastic toe-related films worth watching. In addition to these stories and others, nosotros offer y'all this month a more than responsible publication, in physical terms. In an endeavour to reduce our carbon footprint, we're now press

The Arts Paper

on more environmentally friendly newspaper and using soy inks. We promise you'll do your part (in part) by recycling this publication once you've finished reading information technology. Another edition of

The Arts Paper

will arrive soon thereafter. With the April 2013 result of

The Arts Newspaper

, nosotros'll brainstorm to examine the intersection of art and science, where it exists hither in New Haven. And with future editions of the publication, we plan to explore other interest areas and the individuals working therein, while roofing the metropolis'south arts scene and artists every bit enthusiastically and comprehensively as we're able. Sincerely, David Brensilver Editor,
